The cut out design under the riders legs gives closer contact and feel to the horse. When Marlene got together with legendary saddle maker Howard Council in 1983 to build the best fitting performance saddle for barrel racing, pole bending and more this was the design they used to maintain the proper amount of balance while reducing weight. Elastic inserts in the tugs attached to each side of your saddle and where the breast collar attaches to your front cinch underneath your horse's chest. This is important so that your breast collar is not pulling on your saddle as your horse moves and allows for better extension of your horse's shoulders without restriction.
